In this second volume of their travel essay series, Nicholas Marshall and Michiyo Miyake explore Iwai-shima (Yamaguchi), Oku-Nikkō (Tochigi) and the Kōbe Muslim Mosque (Hyōgo). These essays offer both a unique glimpse into lesser-known destinations and personal reflections on their cultural and social landscapes.

UGUISU is the creative duo of Michiyo Miyake and Nicholas Marshall. It originally began as a translation team, and evolved into a co-authoring venture. Their first volume, Postcard from Amami, was published in 2024.

MICHIYO MIYAKE: Writer and translator, born in Japan and based in Australia. Since 2016, she has lived in Sydney and started UGUISU BOOKS. Her recent publications include a novel Green Metal: Life in Tokyo during the Nuclear Catastrophe (Uguisu Books, 2024).

Nicholas Marshall: Editor and writer based in Sydney. He has a PhD in applied linguistics and was a professor of English for Academic Purposes in the postgraduate school of Meiji University in Tokyo. He also taught academic English at Tsuda and Waseda Universities in Japan, and Macquarie University in Sydney.
